#RedefineDatabase Events in Brazil

Nathan Biggs (@nathanbiggs), CEO

Redefine_DatabaseIt was my privilege to participate in EMC Brazil’s #RedefineDatabase seminars last week. We had two days of presentations each in Sao Paolo and Rio de Janeiro; meeting with many customers who are using Oracle technology. The EMC team in Brazil was amazing to work with. They put together a fantastic event that focused on the business impact of running Oracle, and the benefits of using EMC and VMware to optimize those environments.

House of Brick was invited to present to the attendees on understanding Oracle licensing in a virtualized environment.

As is typical, the customers in Brazil had fallen victim to the non-contractual assertions that Oracle sales reps have been making lately regarding their software and VMware virtualized infrastructures. The following diagram outlines those non-contractual assertions.

We were able to address each of these assertions, and how they need to be considered in terms of the actual agreements that those customers have with Oracle. For more information on this topic, I would encourage you to read Dave Welch’s blog post, “Oracle Licensing: Soft Partitioning on VMware is Your Contractual Right” or take in his March 19th webinar on the subject, “Straight Talk on Oracle on VMware Licensing.”

Since this was my first trip to Brazil, our hosts were gracious enough to take us to eat the fantastic Brazilian cuisine, and to visit the famous Sugarloaf Mountain.

EMC_Brazil_GroupI just want to thank Sanchiro, Tamaki, Joel, Gazza, Thiago, Wesley, and the rest of the EMC Brazil team for a wonderful trip, and an amazing experience with your customers.

Muito obrigado!

Nathan
