House of Brick was invited to present to the attendees on understanding Oracle licensing in a virtualized environment.
As is typical, the customers in Brazil had fallen victim to the non-contractual assertions that Oracle sales reps have been making lately regarding their software and VMware virtualized infrastructures. The following diagram outlines those non-contractual assertions.
We were able to address each of these assertions, and how they need to be considered in terms of the actual agreements that those customers have with Oracle. For more information on this topic, I would encourage you to read Dave Welch’s blog post, “Oracle Licensing: Soft Partitioning on VMware is Your Contractual Right” or take in his March 19th webinar on the subject, “Straight Talk on Oracle on VMware Licensing.”
Since this was my first trip to Brazil, our hosts were gracious enough to take us to eat the fantastic Brazilian cuisine, and to visit the famous Sugarloaf Mountain.

Muito obrigado!
Nathan
